Participation in Friday Night Storytelling

To open the conference, invited speakers Elizabeth Allemang and Carol Couchie will illustrate that student Midwives are the newest piece of a generations-old puzzle, and will help us see where our puzzle piece fits by acknowledging and respecting the traditions and history of Midwifery that support us in our current studies and future practices.

The second half of the Friday evening programme will feature an “open mic” where practicing Midwives, Midwifery consumers, faculty at Ryerson, as well as student audience members, are invited to share stories (details below) that illustrate their inspirations and beliefs.

All attendees are welcome to share a personal story, poem, song, brief reading etc. that illustrates:
    • why you want to be a Midwife
    • what keeps you motivated when facing adversity
    • why you think Midwifery is important
    • the importance of supporting each other
    • the importance of recognizing the traditions and history that make today’s Midwifery possible
